Tempranillo 2020
Tempranillo 2020
Canadian Tempranillo? Coming from our winemaker’s East-SE facing plot in Kaleden, this Tempranillo was wild-fermented and remains unfiltered. Okanagan Tempranillo is on the rare side, and we only produce a few barrels each vintage. To soften the tannins of this powerful Spanish variety, we used traditional method egg-white fining from Kevin’s own chickens that roam free among the Tempranillo vines. In case you're wondering, the egg-white sinks to the bottom and is COMPLETELY 'racked' out: does not end up in the final wine.
The nose is bright with ripe raspberry, followed by cacao and sage on the palate. This is a beautifully dry wine, but with great acidity, and the 15 months it spent in neutral French oak give it some body, although lighter than what you might experience with a Spanish Tempranillo.
